Choosing the perfect size


I’m hesitating about the best size to choose. What should I do?

According to my measurements, I am in between two sizes. What should I do?

Worry not, it happens more than you would think! All clothing brands’ size guides are based on standardized body measures, but it is completely normal that your measurements don’t match them precisely. đŸ˜Š

We recommend prioritizing the largest measure to make sure the piece of clothing fits, unless you prefer a tighter fit and provided that the piece of clothing is made with stretch fabric.

Do your products fit true to size?

Our clothes sizes are based on standard North American sizing. We strongly recommend taking your measurements following our size guide instructions. You don't have a measuring tape? You can order one for free right here!

If for some reason you cannot take your measurements, we recommend choosing the size you normally wear from other similar brands.

    Do sleeve lengths and pant inseams vary from one size to another?

    For pants and jumpsuits, inseam lengths do not vary from one size to the other. Other products (such as dresses, shirts, tops, etc.) have a slight difference lengthwise between each size, which ranges from 0.5 to 1cm (3/16” à 3/8“).

     

    I am very tall. Will the Gaia & Dubos clothes fit me?

    Yes! Unless you are over 5’11”, our clothes will fit like a glove! Many taller clients have already ordered our products and they are delighted with their purchase! We design our clothes with slightly elongated sleeves and hems to accommodate those who are on the taller side.

    Our linen jumpsuits as well as our adjustable organic cotton pants have a cropped leg, which is specifically designed to accommodate people of all heights!

     

    I am very short. Will the Gaia & Dubos clothes fit me?

    Sleeves:

    Yes, since our sleeves are tapered at the wrist. You will thus be able to roll them up nicely if need be and they will stay in place throughout the day! 

    For dresses, skirts, jumpsuits and pants:

    The length of dresses, skirts and full-length pants may be too long for you. Once you try them on, you will be able to see if you like the fit as is, or if you wish to shorten the hem, whether it’s done by your favourite seamstress or you learn to do it yourself with our video sewing course !

    Our linen jumpsuits as well as our adjustable organic cotton pants have a cropped leg, which is specifically designed to accommodate people of all heights! Thus you will not have to shorten the hem.

     

    I have a round body shape. Will the Gaia & Dubos clothes fit me?

    Most of our clothes were specifically designed to accommodate all body types. However, we do recommend avoiding non-stretch, fitted styles like our boyfriend button-down shirts, our classic button-down shirts, as well as our linen pieces since these styles are relatively fitted.

    Aside from those styles, most of our clothes should fit like a glove! If in doubt, write us at info@gaiaetdubos.com to share your body measurements and the name of the products you would like to order. We will then be able to give you our best advice on choosing the perfect size for you.

     

    Do you offer Plus Size clothing?

    Most of our styles are available in sizes XS to 2XL, or sizes 0 to 18.

    Gaia & Dubos dreams of extending its size offering. For the moment, we are a growing business and are unable to carry a wider range of sizes, which represents heavy investments.

     

    Do you offer tailoring or alteration services on your products or made-to-order/custom-made creations?

    Unfortunately, Gaia & Dubos does not have the workforce nor the necessary equipment and facilities to offer tailoring, alteration or custom-made services.

    In the past, I have bought a piece of Gaia & Dubos clothing with a numerical size (size 0-2-4-6-8-10-12-14-16 or 18), while the same product on your website now shows alphabetical size options (XS-S-M-L or XL). How can I know which size is the equivalent of the one I already have?

    We are so sorry about the confusion! In fact, some of our products have changed for a new sizing chart, in order to better serve our beloved customers. The sizes equivalencies are thus:

    • Sizes 0 and 2 = XS
    • Sizes 4 and 6 = S
    • Sizes 8 and 10 = M
    • Sizes 12 and 14 = L
    • Sizes 16 and 18 = XL

    How to take care of your Gaia & Dubos clothes

     

    Do Gaia & Dubos clothes shrink after washing?

    Products that are made with natural fibres (organic cotton, Belgian linen, organic silk) will slightly shrink lengthwise after the first wash in cold water and NO dryer use. Please allow a total shrinkage of about 0,5 cm to 1 cm (3/16” à 3/8") on the total length.

    Products made of synthetic fibres (all of our recycled plastic bottle fabrics) do not shrink when washed in cold water with no dryer.

     

    Can I wash my Gaia & Dubos clothes in the washing machine?

    The vast majority of our styles can be washed in the washing machine, except for particular styles (jackets, coats and all of our organic silk clothes, which require dry cleaning or hand washing).

    Make sure to wash your clothes and accessories that do go in the washing machine with cold water to avoid shrinkage (and to minimize the amount of required energy compared with using hot water!).

    Can I dry my Gaia & Dubos in the dryer?

    We strongly advise against using the dryer for your Gaia & Dubos clothes, but also for any other clothes.

    Not only does using a dryer use a lot of energy, it also prematurely damages textiles. If you want the fabric of your clothes to remain impeccably durable and supple over time, we recommend air drying them (by laying them flat or hanging them, depending on the type of clothes).

    Can I pick up my order in person?

    Unfortunately, it is not possible to pick up your order in person at our Quebec City fulfilment centre. Our employees are not there on a regular full-time basis, thus arranging in-person pickups is not an option at present.
     

    Can I track my package with a tracking number?

    Yes. For orders shipped in Canada, a Canada Post tracking number is sent to you by email once your order is shipped. You can track it in real time on the Canada post website.

    For orders shipped outside of Canada, a Fedex or DHL tracking number tracking number is sent to you by email once your order is shipped, depending on the carrier you selected.

      

    There seems to be a problem with my order shipment.

    If you tracked your package on the website of the carrier shipping your order and there seems to be a delay, mistake or another problem, the carrier normally resolves it rapidly.

    We recommend contacting the carrier first, as we do not have any additional information about the shipping process. Do not hesitate to also contact us at info@gaiaetdubos.com so that we may assist you in any way.

    I haven’t received my package but the tracking number indicates it has been delivered. What should I do?


    If the shipping address is in Canada, your package is probably at the nearest Canada Post office.

    You should have received a notice card indicating the location where and when you can pick up your package. We recommend contacting the carrier first, as we do not have additional information.

    Do not hesitate to also contact us at info@gaiaetdubos.com so that we may assist you in any way.

     

    What happens if no one is home when the package is delivered?


    For deliveries in Canada, Canada Post will leave a notice card indicating the nearest post office where you can pick up your package. Bring the notice card and an identification document showing your photo and address.

    Please double check the card you receive by Canada Post as often one cannot pick up the parcel until the following day. When you can pick up your parcel will be indicated on the Canada Post card.

    For orders shipped outside of Canada, procedures can vary depending on the carrier. If needed, you can contact the carrier shipping your order (Fedex or DHL) to know what they do with your package if no one is home.

     

    My product got damaged during delivery. What can I do?


    Immediately write to us at info@gaiaetdubos.com
    so that we can make this right! If possible, attach a photo of the damaged item in your email.

    Please be assured that, to this date, none of our clients has ever received a damaged parcel since Gaia & Dubos’s foundation in 2017! 

     

    Checkout, orders and payment


    I am not able to place an order. What can I do?

    Write us a info@gaiaetdubos.com to let us know about the issue you’re experiencing and we will help you solve the problem as soon as possible.

    For a problem related to payment, we invite you to verify that the payment information is correct or to communicate with your credit card or PayPal's customer service, if needed.

     

    How can I modify or cancel an order after having paid?

    Write us immediately at info@gaiaetdubos.com to let us know what you would like to change or cancel and we will do our best to accommodate you as soon as possible.

    Once the order has shipped, it is no longer possible to modify or cancel it. You will need to return it for an exchange or a refund once you have received your package.

     

    I have a promo code. How can I apply it to my order?

    On a computer: 

    1. Once on your cart page, click on "Check out".
    2. On the next page, enter your promo code in the section "Gift card or discount code". This is generally located at the top right corner of the screen.

    On a mobile phone:

    1. Once on your cart page, click on "Check out".
    2. Fill out your information, then click on "Continue to shipping"
    3. Enter your promo code as in the section "Gift card or discount code".

     

    I forgot to apply my promo code to my order. What can I do to fix this and apply my discount?

    Write us at info@gaiaetdubos.com and share your promo code with us. If it is valid, we will apply it manually to your order by issuing a partial refund to the payment method you used for your order.

     

    If I place an item in my cart, is it reserved for me until I proceed to checkout?

    No. You need to finalise your order and pay for the item in order for it to be reserved for you.

     

    The product(s) I want are not available anymore. What can I do?

    Go to the page of the desired product to sign up for email notifications. You will receive an email alert once it is available again. This option is only available for products for which a restock is planned. Some of our products are offered in limited quantities and they will no longer be available once out of stock. 

    What methods of payment do you accept?

    You can pay by credit card (Visa, MasterCard and American Express) or via PayPal.

     

    Can I pay over time in fixed installments?

    Yes! For products of $100 and more, you could be eligible for an interest-free 4-installment plan thanks to the Sezzle app. You will see this option at checkout. The installment plan is in four equal payments with no additional fee.

    Your order will be shipped as soon as we receive your first installment! You won't have to wait until you have paid in full before you receive your order.

    This payment method is subject to approval based on criteria determined by Sezzle.
     

    Are the financial transactions on your website entirely secure?


    Yes. Our online payment system is Level 1 PCI Compliant and includes an SSL certificate that uses industry standard 128 bit encryption technology to make sure your credit card or Paypal account information is entirely secure.

     

    In which currency are the prices?


    If you are browsing our website from Canada, our product prices show in Canadian dollars ($CA). Our prices may show in other currencies if you are based outside of Canada. You will see the applicable currency symbol next to the product prices.

     

    Do prices include taxes?

    No. Taxes will be charged according to the Canadian province to which the order is billed. No tax will be charged for orders billed outside Canada.

    For orders shipped outside of Canada, custom fees may apply.

     

    Can I send my order as a gift?


    Of course! At checkout, simply write the name and address of the person you wish to send it to.

    If you are also buying products for yourself, you will need to make a separate order. Each order allows for one mailing address only.

    Do I need to have sewing experience to subscribe to the online courses?

    The courses do not require any sewing experience. Each step is visually and orally explained so that you clearly understand the techniques.

    Knowing how to thread and operate your sewing machine is required for the Mending with a sewing machine Course and the Course Duo. No specific instructions will be given as to how to operate your sewing machine, since every brand and model is different.

     

    How can I know which video sewing course best fits my needs?


    Each series offers different content for beginners. You can read each course's fact sheet to see which course best fit your needs:

        What supplies do I need for the video sewing courses?

        Sewing supplies required for our courses are basic equipment that you may use again in the future. We recommend the following for your basic supplies:

        • Thread spools of various colours (recommended: standard tex-27 polyester thread)
        • Sharpened fabric scissors
        • Seam ripperWax or soap chalk
        • Measuring tape
        • Pins
        • Iron and ironing board
        • Hand stitching needles (Repairs by hand Course only)
        • Sewing machine (Repairs with a sewing machine or Sewing course duo only)
        • Sewing machine needles (sizes 12, 14 and 16) (Repairs with a sewing machine or Sewing course duo only)
        • Thread bobbin and bobbin cases compatible with your sewing machine (Repairs with a sewing machine or Sewing course duo only)


        Some courses require additional material (i.e: button, elastic, thermobonding patch, etc.). All the supplies you need will be listed before you check out, depending on the course you sign up for.

          Where can I buy sewing supplies?


          There are tons of sewing stores where you can buy supplies. Depending upon where you live, you may have access to physical stores or online stores only.

          To locate a brick and mortar sewing store, we recommend searching on the Internet by typing the city you live in and key words such as "sewing supplies", "sewing", “fabric”, “sewing machine”, etc. 

          To find an online store, type these same keywords in a search engine.

           

          Do I need a sewing machine?

          Not necessarily. The sewing course Mending by hand does not require a sewing machine, while the course Mending with a sewing machine and the sewing course Duo: Mending by hand and with a sewing machine do require having access to a machine.

           

          I do not have a sewing machine. Where can I buy one?


          Gaia & Dubos encourages second-hand purchases for sewing machines in order to reduce your ecological and ethical footprint. You can search on KijijiEbay or Marketplace to find one close to your home. Otherwise, most department stores offer domestic sewing machines at various price ranges.

           

          I have a sewing machine but I do not know how it works. What can I do?

          Unfortunately, it is not in our power to teach you how to operate your sewing machine, since every brand and model works differently. We recommend referring to the user manual to understand how it operates.

          If you do not have access to the user guide, you can type your sewing machine's brand, model and serial number in a search engine to find instructions with regards to threading, starting, operating and maintenance of your machine.

           

          How long will I have access to the course I sign up for?


          You will have access to the courses and the series for the rest of your life! There is no expiration date on the videos and you will be able to watch them over and over again.

           

          Can I pause, rewind and fast forward the videos?


          Yes. Our videos have all the functions required to pause, stop, replay, rewind, fast forward, adjust the volume and set to full-screen mode.

           

          I would like to offer a sewing course as a gift. How can I give one to someone else?


          The video courses are instantly downloadable when you proceed to payment. The downloads are also immediately sent to the email address provided in the order. You can thus simply write the email address of the person you wish to give them to so that they can receive the downloads for the video courses.

          However, if you wish to keep it a surprise until a further date, we recommend placing the order on that day or transferring them the downloads you will have received to your own email address.

          First of all, we congratulate you for your desire to part with your textile products in an environmental manner. Unfortunately, Gaia & Dubos does not have the infrastructure, workforce and equipment needed to accept second-hand textiles.

          We invite you to search organizations in your neighborhood that do take back used textile products.
